Seven Anglo Leasing suspects faced charges of corruption and abuse of office at Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday morning. Chris Obure among seven Anglo Leasing suspects
They include Kisii Senator Chris Obure, former Postmaster General Francis Chahonyo and former PSs Sammy Kyungu (Communication), Joseph Magari (Treasury) and Dave Mwangi (Internal Security).
The others arraigned over the multi-billion-shilling scandal are David Onyonka, former head of debt management at the Treasury, and former Finance secretary Samuel Bundotich.
Thirteen suspects implicated in the case were set for arraignment after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission finalised investigations.
Businessman Deepak Kamani, his father Chamanlal Kamani and brother Rashmi Kamani were also implicated in the case.
The trio failed to secure an order on Monday stopping the EACC and the DPP from arresting and prosecuting them.
It emerged that EACC detectives started tracking down the suspects on Monday evening after receiving the go-ahead to prosecute the 13 from DPP Keriako Tobiko.
Although most of the suspects were found, a few, including the Kamanis, had not been located by 5pm.
Detectives were waiting outside their Kyuna estate residence in the Spring Valley area to arrest them.
Senior EACC officials met until late in the night on Monday strategising on how best to handle the case, which has received a lot of publicity.
It was resolved that the suspects be tracked and charged in court before they try to leave the country.
The Kamanis are linked to companies that were awarded 13 out of 18 Anglo Leasing security contracts.
The remaining five contracts are said to have been awarded to a Sri Lankan businessman.
