Security cameras also caught the defendant leaving the threatening note outside the restaurant on August 2.

‘I found a letter, with an Interior Ministry logo, from a man who said was a lieutenant,’ย the Italian man said in his statement to prosecutors.

‘He claimed I washaving an affair with a Bahraini woman and my life was in danger because of that.

‘He added that if I did not pay him BD5,000 within 14 days he was going to carry out the threat against me.

‘I later found out the man was a waiter at the restaurant because he continued to send me threatening messages from his mobile phone.’

The Lower Criminal Court sentenced the Kenyan to a month behind bars, but he lodged an appeal at the High Criminal Appeals Court which yesterday upheld the initial verdict.
