A section of Jubilee MPs have voiced their support for the president on his war against graft and terror.

The MPs asked the president to soldier on and take whatever measures were necessary to protect the nation.

In a statement read by Mukurweini MP, Kabando wa Kabando, the legislators recognized that these were indeed extraordinary times for the country and called for extraordinary measures.

“Corruption and terrorism are the greatest threat to our sovereignty. A radical and unconventional muscle is required to salvage our motherland.

“We ask the President not to dither or procrastinate in punishing culprits. Indeed,  to dislodge the reigning unholy alliance of graft and fraud, and to slay merchants of impunity, we ask the President to be firm, unorthodox and merciless,” they said.

The group also took issue with their colleagues in the August house who attempt to block the law from taking its course by holding what they termed as unnecessary commissions of inquiry.

ONE VOICE

They said, “Instead of parliament being misused to “hearings” on who did or didn’t do what, let the laws we’ve legislated be executed impartially. Security officers must be brought to account. It’s clear that sleaze, and delinquencies in duty are blocking efficient performance by police.”

The MPs’ also called for the confiscation of property owned by those bankrolling terrorists.

“We demand that the state confiscates all properties of terrorist sympathisers and adequately compensates families victims of terror, and sufficiently safely  relocates, surviving Garissa university college students.”

They also asked the president to remain steadfast in this fight.

“Realising that some politicians, so called political NGOs and other detractors shrink as these evils devour and massacre our very existence, we ask the Presidency not to waver in stamping authority against terrorism, they said.

The lawmakers also called upon all leaders to embrace patriotism and avoid blame games while the county bled. They called on the government and opposition to speak in one voice against terrorism.

Present at the presentation of the statement at the Parliament buildings on Thursday evening were Jubilee MPs: Johnson Sakaja, Grace Kipchoim, Mary Wambui Munene, Peter Weru, Njogu Barua, Waihenya Ndirangu, Maison Leshoomo, Nelson Gaichuhie and Anna Nyokabi.

Their statement follows a purge of suspected corrupt individuals in government and the horrific attack on Garissa University that left over a hundred dead and scores injured.
