Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has said some conferences are wasteful and are being used to โmassage egosโ.
Murkomen took to his Twitter account Saturday evening to express what is seemingly a salvo aimed at the recently concluded devolution conference in Kisumu county.
โSome of the conferences have no theme or achievable targets.Just rumbling, self praise, massage egos and blame others.Total wastefulness,โ Murkomen said.
The vocal senator added that; โLots of public funds in Kenya are wasted in seminars, conferences, workshops & [sic] colloquia. We must do something about it.โ
Murkomen is one of many senators who were conspicuously absent from the three-day event that was opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Murkomen had been invited in his capacity as the chairman of the devolution committee in senate, but failed to attend.
Organisers of the event in its second year said they had facilitated travel and accommodation for all senators, but only 20 appeared.
Murkomen’s differences with Council of Governors chairman and Bomett Governor Isaac Rutto on the governors’ push for a referendum to increase funding to counties, is suspected to have led to the senator’s absence.
Murkomen who was to be a panelist in one of the discussions gave no reason for his absence.
