Have you heard of tweetfake.com? It is a tool for generating fake Tweets.
Well, some psychotic Kenyan discovered the site yesterday and ‘killed’ former Vice President Moody Awori.
Basically, this guy looked for some trustworthy Twitter accounts, generated some condolence messages, then posted the screenshots to convince Kenyans.
It’s not clear who started the rumour, but the obvious suspect would be notorious blog Africagossipnews.com. Within minutes, they had all the screenshots, and a detailed story. These are the guys who give the rest of us a bad name.
To ensure you don’t fall for fake tweets again, here’s something you should always check. Something the tweet generators cannot copy – the blue verified badge.
For instance, the accounts that supposedly tweeted the condolence messages are all verified, yet the blue badge is not visible. Also, the delete option should only be available if you own the account.

Kenyans are always waiting for such an opportunity so that they can jump straight in and be the first to tweet the RIP messages. Below we have some of the first tweets. Instead of embedding, we have screenshots because I’m pretty sure they’ll be deleted as soon as the owners realize how they made a fool of themselves.
