Students were for the first time in Kenyan history allowed to sit in a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta allowed 48 students, who are undergoing the Pupils Rewarding Scheme (PURES) mentorship programme, to attend the 5th Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
According to a statement from the Cabinet Office, the move is aimed at sensitizing the students on ethical and committed leadership, honesty and patriotism.
The students will also tour Parliament, the Department of Defence and Judiciary as part of the programme.
The Cabinet Office said this is to encourage students to aspire to be future leaders and aims at growing the right leadership values in them at an early age.
During the meeting, the government directed the Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia to immediately take measures to stem the spread of cholera that has killed at least 65 people in the country.
The government also urged counties to implement measures to contain the disease in their respective counties by enhancing health education to members of the public on the prevention of outbreaks.
The cabinet also resolved to develop a strategy for control of cholera by incorporating all the counties, since health management is a devolved function.
Risk mapping of affected areas will also be finalized. According to the Health Ministry a total of 3,235 cholera cases and 65 deaths had been reported nationally as of Tuesday.
