The government has confirmed that US President Barack Obama will make a speech at theย Kasarani Safaricom Stadium next Sunday.
State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said he has no further details on Obama’s address but said that US Ambassador Robert Godec and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed will address the subject later this week.
“Many of you continue to ask about a detailed programme, and unfortunately we still do not have one,” Esipisu added.
The Spokesperson further confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Tuesday announceย Kenya’s agendas which will be discussed during bilateral talks with Obama on Saturday at State House. This is after the two Presidents co-host the Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the United Nations in Gigiri.
The two will also address a joint news conference at State House following the Summit.
Esipisu said that preparations for the GES summitย ย are in the final stages stating that Kenya should expect thousands of visitors for the event.
“Some of you have been reporting the roaring business for hoteliers and other service providers, which is good news for some of our tourist-leaning industries. It is also a great opportunity for your young innovators and entrepreneurs to brush shoulders with genuine global pedigree and we believe that the information sharing and potential deal-making will be awesome next week,” Esipisu said.
He further urged Kenyans to “shun political marketeers powered by negative energy.”
“I invite Kenyans to celebrate our country and treat the Afro-pessimists who see nothing positive about Kenya with contempt. This is particularly important at a time when the world is converging in Kenya to celebrate our democracy, innovations and special positioning on the continent,” the Spokesperson said.
