Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has said he did not attend Sunday’s ICCย prayer meeting in Nakuru county because he was not invited.

Rutto said he only learned of the prayers, for DP William Ruto and former journalist Joshua Sang, through the press, and that the organisers did not contact him.

โ€œAs far as I am concerned, the Kuresoi meeting was a prayer function cum political rally for TNA party and URP MPs,โ€ he said.

Addressing the press atย Toronik in Bomet East subcounty on Monday, Rutto said he chose to stick to his plan to attend three church fundraisers in the county.

Kerichoย Senator Charles Keter dismissed Rutto’s explanation sayingย no one was formally invited and that it was open to all.

The governor and the DP have been involved in public spats over matters affecting the people of Rift Valley and the URP.

He missed the rally alongside Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Kanu secretary general Nick Salat.

Leaders who spoke at the rally termed the ICC case unjust and skewed toward the Kalenjin community.

Garissa Town MP Aden Duale lashed out at the Kenya National Human Rights Commission, saying it had conspired with the ICC โ€œto fix the twoโ€.

The ICC prosecution relied heavily on the findings of a commission headed by Justice Philip Waki, which in turn used the report prepared by the KNCHR after the 2008 post-election violence.

During the prayersย at Kiptororo in Kuresoi North constituency, the leaders expressed optimismย that the cases will soon be dropped.

Both Ruto and Sang skipped the event.
