Death & Fundraising Announcement Of Cate Kanana

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of Ms. Cate Kanana, who succumbed to cancer on Monday, February 29th, 2015 at her cousin Aileen’s home in Ramsey, Minnesota.

Cate was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, 2014. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment shortly thereafter, and continued to be hopeful for a full recovery. Cate soldiered through this journey with a positive attitude and relentless determination to regain her strength, return to work, and even resumed her studies at Century College in St. Paul, MN.

After tenaciously overcoming breast cancer, experienced a seizure in November 2015, and the cancer was determined to have metastasized to her neck and brain. Cate kept her faith strong as she underwent a medical trial administered by the Mayo Clinic. Cate was an authentic individual, and true to her love of people. She always had a ready smile and a story or joke to share, which lit up the hearts of those who came to visit her at the hospital. She often recounted fond memories of friends and family, and kept in touch with them regularly. She was a source of encouragement to all who she came into contact with, just as much as they were to her. Cate embraced life, and was determined to live it abundantly – for her children, family, friends, and community. Cate was admitted into hospice and finally gained her angel wings in the early morning hours of Monday, February 29th, 2016. With her family at her side, Cate’s last words were ‘everything happens for a reason’.

Cate leaves to cherish her memory her spouse, Randy Skrove, and children Victor, Mark and Liza. On her family’s behalf, the funeral committee is making this appeal for your support to raise $17,000 to meet funeral expenses and airline tickets for Cate’s children to travel from Kenya for the funeral services, as well as $25,000 to cover outstanding medical expenses. Please help us to bring Cate’s family together during this most difficult time in their lives. No contribution is too small! Thank you for your generous support, and may God bless each and every one of you as you give.
