NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 1 โ Five people have been arrested at the screening point at Uhuru Park while carrying crude weapons to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) rally.
Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam told Capital FM News that security has been heightened in the area and assured those attending the event of enough security.
โWe intercepted five people as they tried to gain entry into Uhuru Park. Our officers searched them and discovered crude weapons that included knives and rungus,โ he said.
The rally to be addressed by the CORD leadership was allowed by the courts after it was banned over security concerns.
Those arrested are being interrogated so that their motives can be established.
According to Kattam, officers have been strategically placed to deal with any unrest or unruly behavior during the occasion.
He stated that a large contingent of police has been deployed to Uhuru Park which has been at the centre of a licencing controversy between CORD and a religious organization.
This year, the national Madaraka Day celebrations are being celebrated in Nakuru with President Uhuru Kenyatta officiating.
