Water CS Eugene Wamalwa and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru are plotting an alliance to clinch the Jubilee ticket for Nairobi governor seat in the 2017 polls.
The leaders, while attending a Sunday service at Jesus is Alive Ministries Church in Nairobi, said they have had discussions on how to work together to win the election.
“I know you (Wamalwa) have been looking for a Kikuyu running mate and I have also been looking for Luhya running mate. So I think we can work together to get the (Jubilee) ticket and win this seat, ” said Wanjiru.
Both Wanjiru and Wamalwa have expressed interest in running for the Nairobi governor in 2017 on a Jubilee ticket.
Wamalwa said he has been criticised, condemned and called an outsider by a section of leaders for expressing interest in the seat.
“I have been told alls sorts if things, that I am an outsider ans that this City has its owners. But this is the politics that we should change,” he said.
The CS said he will resign next year and fully join politics.
Nairobi woman representative Rachel Shebesh and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who accompanied the CS, supported his bid.
“Who owns Nairobi that warrants some people to brand others outsiders? Nairobi is for all of us and nobody can claim it,” Kuria said.
Shebesh said having Wamalwa as Jubilee Nairobi governor flag-bearer will show that the party is for all communities.
Two weeks ago, four MPs from Mt Kenya region endorsed Wamalwa for the city’s top job.
This did not however go down well with some Nairobi MPs led by Starehe MP Maina Kamanda who said outsiders cannot shape the city politics.
Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, another governor hopeful, and Kamanda have claimed that Wamalwa is a “project”being imposed on the people of Nairobi.
The race for the governor seat has attracted at least five people, all eying to unseat Cord’s Evans Kidero on a Jubilee ticket.
TNA Chairman Johnson Sakaja and Senator Mike Sonko are also eyeing to unseat Kidero in the 2017 polls.
