Controversial ‘medic’ Mugo Wairimu will stay in remand much longer after his surety was withdrawn on Friday.

John Ngugi, who deposited a title deed to secure Wairimu’s release, told the court that he needs the document back to facilitate his children’s education.

Wairimu had asked the court to give him two weeks to look for another surety, but the magistrate declined.

Chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo reinstated Wairimu’s bond terms and asked him to make necessary arrangements to secure his release.

Wairimu was also warned against skipping court sessions and was directed not to interfere with witnesses lined up for the case.

He has been in remand for 10 days after failing to appear in court for a hearing on August 24.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a sedated patient while posing as a medical doctor.

The incident took place on November 1, 2014 at Prestige Healthcare Clinic in Nairobi.

It is alleged that Mugo raped a woman after giving her four tablets of an unknown drug.

He is also charged with employing two unregistered lab technicians, and purporting to practice medicine while not registered and licensed as a physician.

He faces another count of being in possession of and using a radiation device without a permit from the Radiation Protection Board.
