An armed gunman on Wednesday night stormed Tuskys Daima Supermarket along Tom Mboya Street, sparking panic among shoppers and traders in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

According to eyewitnesses, the lone suspect entered the supermarket at around 8:20 p.m., approached the cash register, and fired two rounds into the air, sending customers and shop attendants fleeing for safety. CCTV footage reviewed by investigators shows a man dressed in black forcefully seizing a white sack from the branch’s chief cashier before calmly walking out of the store.

Supermarket  immediately closed

No injuries were reported in the incident. The supermarket was immediately closed as officers from the Kenya Police Service arrived at the scene to secure the premises and launch investigations.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the gunman made away with approximately Sh1 million, believed to be the day’s sales collection. Police have since reviewed CCTV footage and are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspect.
