Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirants including former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua and candidates of all other seats in the region have been hit with a strict order regarding how they will conduct their 2017 campaigns.
Gichugu Member of Parliament (MP) Njogu Barua asked all aspirants eyeing different positions and are backing President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s re-election to carry out their campaigns separately from the Presidential one.
Barua, who was selected to spearhead Kenyatta’s campaign in the region, said those vying for gubernatorial, senatorial, MP and women representative seat to conduct their campaigns and those of Kenyatta’s re-election on completely separate forums.
Barua noted that aspirants are used taking advantage of huge numbers during the President’s rallies to sell their agenda, declaring that things would this time be done differently.
”Aspirants will have to hold their separate campaign rallies and popularise themselves individually and not during the presidential ones where maximum outreach will be expected,” Barua stated.
The MP divuled that he would be meeting all aspirants in the region to discuss Mr Kenyatta’s re-election agenda stating that the County should count itself lucky for getting a slot in Jubilee’s 2017 campaign squad.
“I am planning for preparatory meetings with all the aspirants of various elective positions and incumbents where electioneering campaign rallies for President Uhuru’s re-election will be planned and executed at the earliest,” he said.
The County’s top seat is expected to be hotly contested after Karua declared her support for the Head of State, with Waiguru already having stated that she would vie on a Jubilee ticket same as incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi.
Ms Karua however, declined to join Jubilee affirming that she would vie for the seat on a Narc-Kenya ticket.
