The Nairobi gubernatorial seat has elicited mixed reactions among the contestants
– Mike Sonko, Johnson Sakaja, Peter Kenneth are both eyeing the seat with the Jubilee ticket
– President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally spoken on the hotly contested race
President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally spoken on the hotly contested Nairobi governor seat that has been hitting headlines.
Uhuru said he will meet all aspirants and ask them to unite and focus on defeating the current governor Evans Kidero who is seeking a re-election on the ODM ticket.
He was speaking during an interview on Kameme FM on Friday, January 20.
“Let them be guided by what happened in 2013. Our candidates went separate ways and this led to votes being split and that is how we lost the seat,” he said.
Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, TNA nominated MP Johnson Sakaja are among those vying for Nairobi’s top seat.
They have heavily criticized former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, who recently announced his bid for the seat.
Just a week after saying that he was going after Kidero’s seat, Kenneth has met criticism from all quarters.
Sonko himself said that he was willing to step down for any other leader but not Kenneth.
He was called an outsider who only had selfish interests at heart.
