He campaigned on a bicycle, going door to door in search of votes and won the Igembe South parliamentary seat. John Paul Mwirigi defied all odds and beat the Jubilee wave to win the seat as an independent candidate.
The 24-year-old student at Mount Kenya University also made another political statement when he arrived in parliament in a matatu.
He was also driven to State House by Tharaka MP George Murugara for a Jubilee parliamentary group meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
After the meeting, Mwirigi reportedly walked on foot saying he did not want to bother his newfound colleagues. He then went looking for a friend who had volunteered to drive him around until he buys a car.
The young legislator now has more reasons to smile after well-wishers, led by comedian MC Jessy, accorded him a makeover.
The wardrobe makeover was overseen by one of Uhuru Kenyatta’s stylist, Naneuleshan.
“Courtesy of the Amerucans and as promised tuliamua our very own John Paul Mwirigi, the 24-year-old Igembe South MP elect, we will dress him as per the rules of the August house. #Meru_Delivers.” wrote Mc Jessy on social media.
