Starehe MP Charles โJaguarโ Njagua is seekingย the relocation of the electoral commissionโs headquarters at Anniversary Towers from the Central Business District (CBD).
The first-time MPย has submitted his request to IEBCย urging them to move their offices from his constituency due to the chaos that has been witnessed in Nairobiโs CBD.
In his letter, submitted yesterday, Jaguar argues that the existence of the IEBC offices in the CBD has brought more harm to his constituencyโs economy considering it is the center-stage of the opposition demonstrations.
โIn the recent past, your stakeholders, specifically the Nasa coalition have made it impossible for individual and corporate members of my constituency to run their businesses in peace,โ he wrote.
โEstimates show that approximately Ksh.100,000,000 is lost, directly and indirectly, when your stakeholders engage you. With the planned daily NASA engagements with you starting next week, my constituency members stand to lose Ksh1 billion. This is unacceptable,โ read the statement.
The MP further directs the electoral agency to make sure that it informs the Inspector General of Police whenever their stakeholders, NASA, plan to demonstrate.
In a press conference yesterday afternoon, Jaguar noted thatย he had received a lot of complaints from his constituents.
โAnytime the demos are held, traders have been at losses and the CBD comes to a standstill. I urge those whose property was destroyed to file a report at central police station as directed by the CS,โ he said.
