A man in Trans Nzoia County reportedly set himself on fire after his girlfriend received a phone call from another man in his presence.
The man, Celis Omangi Kiilu, is said to have disagreed with his lover, Selina Akoth a 23-year-old bartender in Kapsara as he escorted her off work at around 1a.m. when her phone rang and she picked it up.
An enraged Celis is said to have confronted Selina, asking why she was receiving phone calls at that time of the night and who exactly was calling her, leading to a massive disagreement between the two.
Celis, who works as a posh mill attendant, was reportedly carrying the last bit of petrol he had used for the dayโs work as at the time of the incident.
On noticing that the call to his lover had come from a fellow man, Celis is said to have doused in petrol and set himself on fire.
According to area assistant chief Evans Wandabi, Celis was rushed to a hospital in Kapsara before eventually being transferred to a Kitale hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His body has been preserved at a Kitale mortuary pending further investigations into the incident.
