Glory: Margaret Wanjiru’s Bid for Raila Running Mate Gets Boost

HOUSING assistant minister Margaret Wanjiru’s bid to become Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s running mate, received a major boost after 20 aspiring MPs from Uasin Gishu county threw their support behind her. The aspirants appealed to the PM to name the Starehe MP as his running mate.

Led by ODM’s Eldoret North parliamentary aspirant Richard Kemboi, they said they have confidence in Wanjiru. They said she has the ability to mobilise support for the party across the country.

Kemboi said it is prudent for the PM to move with speed and name his running mate if the party is to mount a serious campaign. He said the assistant minister is fit for the number two slot owing to her steadfast support for the party besides her capacity to campaign in all parts of the country without any hindrance.

“We are urging the PM to urgently name Hon Wanjiiru as his running mate without further delay to stop our opponents from interfering with the process with the aim of undermining the party’s bid for the top seat,” Kemboi said during a press conference at an Eldoret hotel yesterday.

He dismissed calls by Roads minister Frankline Bett to be named the PM’s running mate saying that his candidature will not add any value to Raila’s quest for the presidency.

Kemboi said Bett has no clout in his Bureti constituency and that is why he wants to ride on the PM’s back. Source: The Star
