Tuesday, the 16th of October 2012 – The two suspects who are in court to answer to charges of being responsible for a robbery attack on an Mpesa shop at Ngara have been released on bail.
The robbery on the Mpesa shop was captured by a CCTV camera and a video of the incident has been making the rounds on the internet ever since.
Besides the theft of monies worth over 50,000 the suspects are also charged with the shooting to death of the chemist attendant Mr Abednego Amunga Omuranda and the theft of mobile phone of one of the customers.
The Kibera principal magistrate Letishia Wachira rejected Prosecutor Justus Imaanaโs protestations that the two accused should not be released on bail, setting the amount for their release at 1 million shillings each. The magistrate said that the prosecution had had sufficient time to prepare reasons why the two should not be released.
Most surprising though is that the suspects Mr Jamal Maina Macharia and Mr Tom Mbugua started laughing hysterically once the magistrate set the bond amount.
The two were arrested in Shauri Moyo estate last week. They have denied the charges against them.
The case is set for hearing on the 13 of December 2012.
