โ€œWe have received a letter from the Office of the President saying that there is no suchย employee,โ€ said Mr Omijah.

Justice Majanja had on Monday summoned Omijah to appear before him and explain why Mwashumbeโ€™sย securityย pass and identification card was being detained by the police.

Mwashumbe had filed an application accusing police of detaining his identification documents without any reason after charging him at a Makindu court with a traffic offence on December 28. The police officer told the court the documents were detained because the police suspected that they were not genuine.

Mwashumbe had told the police when he was arrested that he was a senior officer at the Office of the President.

Omijah said the accused was released after paying a fine and told to appear again at the police station last Friday, but he did not turn up.

When the case was mentioned yesterday, the accusedโ€™sย lawyerย said Mwashumbe was involved in a road accident and he required more time to reach him.

The case was adjourned to Fridayย  and the judge directed Omijah to file anย affidavitgiving reasons as to why the documents are being detained.
