NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 7 โ Baringo Senator Gideon Moi went to see Deputy President William Ruto at The Hague over the weekend.
The two political rivals were photographed together with Kericho Senator Charles Keter taking a leisurely stroll in Den Haag without their bodyguards.
Ruto and the son of the former President Daniel Moi have been political adversaries, battling it out for the ultimate supremacy in the Rift Valley.
Both started their political careers in KANU and were mentored by the former President.
But Ruto broke away from KANU and Moi seniorโs stronghold to become a force to reckon with within the larger Rift Valley region.
On March 4, 2013, Ruto and Moiโs political rivalry was witnessed again.
Rutoโs party (United Republican Party) was fronting Bishop Jackson Kosgei for the Baringo senatorial seat against Moi on a KANU ticket.
Moi won the seat with 124,425 votes against Kosgeiโs 23,591 votes.
Although several legislators have flown to the Dutch capital to show their support for the Deputy President, following his International Criminal Court trial, Moiโs visit comes as a surprise.
Ruto is currently on trial alongside former radio personality Joshua arap Sang, over accusations of committing crimes against humanity in 2007/2008.
They have both been accused of murder, deportation and persecution of persons who were deemed as non supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement, where Ruto belonged at the time.
Ruto and Sang have denied the charges.-capitalfm.co.ke
