A middle-aged woman has been charged with stealing USD57, 300 (Sh4.9 million) from the Kenyan embassy in Zimbabwe.
Mary Ayuma Katungu was said to have been working as the financial attachรฉโ at the embassy’s Foreign Affairs Ministry when she committed the offence.
She is accused of stealing the money on diverse dates between September 2009 and May 2010.
NO JURISDICTION
A letter supposedly signed by the deputy head of the embassy Ms Florence Weche, was presented as evidence.
However, Ms Katungu through her lawyer Nzamba Kitonga, argued that the court has no jurisdiction to hear the case because it was committed outside the Republic of Kenya.
Mr Kitonga added that the charges were incompetent and court was being misused as the only complainant of that case should be the Zimbabwe Government.
Ms Katungu was released on a cash bail of Sh50, 000 and the case will be mentioned this January 22.
