A story is given of a basketball star who was found unconscious in his hotel room. He was young and physically active and appeared to be in good health but after medical tests were done and he was treated, it was found that he had an enlarged heart, 80 percent blockage in two of his arteries and a blood clot. His appearance misled many to think he was physically healthy.
Jesus said that appearances can deceive people into thinking that they are spiritually healthy. In today’s context, this ties into our Word of the Day: Spiritual Health. He pointed out to the Pharisees that they practiced more of acts. They laid aside commands of God for synthetic, religious traditions. We need to realize that kingdom righteousness is not an outside job. It is an inside-out transforming work of God.
Spiritual health is not determined by how we look but by how we live, a key idea in Word of the Day: Spiritual Health. Today, let us ask God to search us, know our hearts, and test us. As we talk the talk let us remember that we need to ensure we are walking the walk to truly embrace Word of the Day: Spiritual Health.
