Embu governor Martin Wambora gets court order to block impeachment proceedings

Embu governor Martin Nyaga Wambora on Monday obtained orders barring the Senate from commencing impeachment proceedings against him.

Embu resident judge Hedwid Ong’undi referred the matter for hearing to the High Court in Kerugoya.

Senators were to meet on Tuesday in a special sitting to kick off the process to determine Wambora’s fate.

The Senate House Business Committee that sets its agenda met last Friday and resolved to recall senators to agree on how they will proceed with the case of the TNA governor who was impeached by his county assembly. (MUTIGA: Senate will set dangerous precedent if it endorses Wambora’s impeachment)

The matter will be heard on February 11, 2014.
