Uhuru and Ruto to take 20 per cent pay cut

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that he and Deputy President William Ruto will be taking a 20 per cent cut on their salaries.

Addressing journalists after four day retreat with Cabinet Secretaries, President Kenyatta also announced that the Cabinet will take a 10 per cent pay cut.

This he said, was inline with reducing the country’s wage bill. The President further added that he will work with other arms of government to ensure that the spending of 400 billion on paying salaries stops stating that this will only leave 200 billion to transform the country.

On the one year scorecard for his government’s performance, President Kenyatta said that the government has done well stating that Flagship projects on food security which is the Galana irrigation project are on course. So are transport projects and plans to digitize government.

“The greatest challenge has been settling down due to the synergy required before implementation” the President said.

He added that his government must get security right stating that the budget will improve the conditions of the police force. He announced that the police are set to receive to get life insurance while  every police station to have a motor vehicle and a pilot housing programme to start
