Diaspora Update: Our team held a fruitful meeting this week with the Diaspora team at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and we are happy to report we have agreed on a joint structure that will assist in handling Diaspora affairs.
MFA is better placed to handle policy issues and we all voluntarily agreed that Ambassador Zachary,a highly experienced diplomat who is the MFA Diaspora Director heads and coordinates the GOK approach to Kenyans living Abroad.
Going forward we agreed to mainstream a diaspora officer in every ministry and help Counties set up a diaspora unit.
By the end of month there will be a diaspora Web portal, whose functions we went through and recommended changes – It is ready just awaiting the updates.
Ungana the Diaspora Mobile App will also be launched at the same time.
The portal and mobile Web will introduce very many contact points as will be seen during the unveil.
The Diaspora draft Policy we agreed will be launched by end of year. For now the process is to turn it into a cabinet memo and eventually a bill.
We also agreed that the Diaspora unit at the Presidency will take the lead in communicating issues related to Kenyans living Abroad.
Very productive meeting. Very concrete decisions and am sure with the expansion of the team and the merging of ideas we are on the right footing..
Thank you for those who continue to send ideas and feedback.
To reflect our role as the team charged with communicating Diaspora issues, we will revive updates of issues on this page
