LAIKIPIA North MP Mathew Lempurkel, who was forced to abandon his trip to Europe on Monday following a confrontation with cabin crew, has denied any wrongdoing.

The MP yesterday defended what he did aboard an Emirates plane, whose take-off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was delayed over the incident. Lempurkel said he complained after cabin crew refused to serve him a beer while other passengers were enjoying their drinks.

โ€œI felt I was being discriminated against because they said they did not have my favourite brand, Tusker, yet other passengers were enjoying some wineโ€ he told the Star on the phone.

Lempurkel said before boarding the plane, he drank four Tuskers in a bar at the airport. He wanted some more beer while on the plane. The first-term MP allegedly caused chaos, broke glasses and insulted cabin crew. Lempurkel was allegedly ejected from the plane.

He denied being removed from the aircraft after the pilot said he would not โ€œfly a rogue passenger”. The MP said he left the plane voluntarily in protest. He also denied breaking items and insulting the crew.
