NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 10 – Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana is pointing an accusing finger at Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement party for orchestrating his impeachment by the County Assembly on Thursday.

Although he did not specifically state who was behind his impeachment, Kibwana says he has reason to believe that the party had a hand in impeachment by the County Assembly members who voted 35-10 in favour of the impeachment motion.

“I take great exception, because I have actually realised that the political party called Wiper is behind this persecutions and so at least one benefit of this proceedings is they have made me know that my biggest problem is that party because people en masse were asked to vote against me and vote for the motion,” said Kibwana who belongs to the Muungano Party.

The MCAs accuse the Governor of corruption and abuse of office; accusations Kibwana says have no basis.

“If you can be impeached because people say you criticised them on Facebook or you used money to renovate your house in a place where you do not have a house, it is laughable; all those things… they are laughable,” quipped Kibwana.

The impeachment follows weeks of bad blood between Kibwana and the MCAs.

Two weeks ago, five people injured were after supporters of the embattled Governor stormed a meeting convened by the Speaker of the County Assembly Stephen Ngelu, six MPs and Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior to discuss Kibwana’s conduct.

Kibwana’s fate now lies with the Senate which is set to hold a special sitting to probe the allegations facing him and establish whether or not the MCAs were justified in kicking him out.

This comes at a time when the Senate – which adjourned so as to mediate in the conflict in Makueni and Isiolo Counties – is yet to hold any meetings or even come up with a framework to counter the emerging issues.

The Senate Committee on Devolved Government chaired by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had last week announced that it would be initiating a three-day probe of the conflict in the country and has already called on the public to submit their views.
