NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 3 – Legislators from the Maasai community have promised to reward President Uhuru Kenyatta with the Kajiado Central parliamentary seat after he nominated Joseph Nkaissery to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Interior.
The leaders commended President Kenyatta for opting to ignore party lines by nominating Nkaissery, who is from the Opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“I want to take this opportunity to guarantee our beloved President that the next MP for Kajiado Central will come from his party, that one is the only thing that we can do to ensure that we say thank you in a big way to him. The next MP for Kajiado Central will not come from ODM but from TNA,” said Lati Lelelit, the Samburu West MP.
Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko said the decision to nominate a member of the Opposition to the Cabinet was not only a bold move but a political game changer.
“We have concluded the issue of ODM in Kajiado, I think it will be no more and we will guarantee that we will deliver this seat through the TNA party,” stated Tobiko.
The lone ODM ranger during the press briefing, Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel, assured ODM they would retain the seat irrespective of the sentiments by his Jubilee counterparts.
“I am telling my brother Lelelit we will meet on the ground. If they have confidence that an ODM candidate can restore security which has been a headache in the country, how about winning a seat?” posed Lempurkel.
The leaders further expressed confidence in Nkaissery’s ability to reform the security docket while at the same time urging Kenyans to volunteer information to help security agencies counter the perpetrators of crime.
“I think it is time Kenyans now hold the spirit of patriotism by volunteering information to the security personnel so that they are able to safeguard the interests of our country. And to Kenyans, we want to plead for patience because we have trust that something will be done differently,” the leaders said.
They were led by Kajiado North MP Moses Ole Sakuda and Tobiko among others.
Meanwhile Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has called for the sacking of all the other security chiefs led by Chief of Defence Forces General Julius Karangi, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Philip Kameru and the Directorate of Criminal investigation Director Ndegwa Muhoro saying the security docket needs a complete overhaul.
While commending President Kenyatta for nominating Nkaissery, Keter said more needed to be done to assure Kenyans of their safety further urging those in the affected areas to come back home until security was beefed up.
