The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) wants officials named in a report handed over to the National Assembly about corruption allegations to step aside immediately.
LSK chairman Eric Mutua said the momentum in the war on corruption should not slow and required unity to be won.
โWe commend President (Uhuru) Kenyatta for taking the bold step and public officials adversely mentioned should immediately step aside pending investigations,โ Mr Mutua said.
In his State of the Nation address on Thursday, President Kenyatta demanded that over 50 public officials leave office to pave the way for investigations into corruption claims against them.
The public officials include Cabinet secretaries, governors, principal secretaries and MPs.
Mr Mutua raised concerns about the handling of corruption cases and referred to the recent controversial payment of Sh1.4 billion to two shadowy firms linked to Anglo Leasing-related contracts.
โLSK remains concerned that the government paid out the Sh1.4 billion after the Office of the Attorney-General acted unconstitutionally, illegally and unprofessionally,โ he said.
