Deputy President William Ruto said Friday that the government will not relent on the war against corruption in the public service irrespective of the status of those involved in the graft.
Noting that all public servants entrusted with public resources must be held to account for their use, Mr. Ruto asked them to exercise a high degree of integrity to ensure that the resources entrusted to them are used for the benefit of the people.
Speaking at the 45th graduation ceremony of Shanzu teachers training college in Mombasa, Mr. Ruto warned that anyone found guilty will be removed from the public service forthwith.
Said the DP, “I want to make it explicitly clear that public resources are meant for the betterment of the lives of the people. We shall not therefore condone any practices that undermine that effort.”
Emphasizing that no public servant should compromise on the integrity of his office, the Deputy President said the government was determined to open a new chapter in public administration in the country.
Mr. Ruto at the same time said the same measures would apply to those making malicious utterances on other leaders without proof. “We want to open a new chapter of integrity that will take the country forward,” he added.
MPs of Parliament Gonzi Rai (Kinango), Peter Shehe (Ganze), Ibrahim Sane (Garsen) and the Kwale women representative Zainab Chidzuga expressed similar sentiments saying they fully supported the President’s directive that those involved in graft step aside to be investigated.
Saying that those involved in corruption must be held to account, the leaders lauded the President’s announcement as a bold move to end graft in the country which they said must be supported by all Kenyans of goodwill.
