Kisumu MCAs say Deputy Speaker can chair sessions as directed by Raila

Kisumu County Assembly Members have bowed to pressure from Cord leader Raila Odinga to allow speaker Pamela Jossy to chair sessions.

Jossy was injured when she attempted to take the Speakers’ chair on April 29.

Tuesday’s decision was arrived at after Jossy made a third attempt to chair the session.

She demanded that acting clerk Owen Ojuok makes it clear who should steer the house sessions because acting Speaker Gabriel Ochieng was already headed to the house to do the same.

After having a long hour closed door meeting at the assembly, the members decided to have Jossy chair the assembly sessions.

Ochieng said he will leave Jossy to chair the sessions at the assembly for peace to prevail. He added that he will work with the deputy Speaker saying that he is still recognized as the acting speaker by the court.

He said for peace to prevail Jossy will chair the sessions.

“We will proceed with the sessions and vow to respect the rule of law as directed by CORD leader Raila Odinga”, he said.

Jossy will chair the assembly proceedings until a case against embattled Speaker Ann Adul is concluded.
