Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru of arm-twisting President Uhuru Kenyatta into halting investigations in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.
Murkomen said that Waiguru is seeking exoneration from the scandal through coercion and threats to the president and his deputy William Ruto by targeting their key allies.
Murkomen, who is also the Senate Deputy Majority Leader, claimed that Waiguru had sent people to his office to demand that the investigations against her be stopped, failure to which she wouldย expose him and National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale.
โWaiguru sent people to me with a message to the president and DP Ruto that the investigations against her should be withdrawn and discussions held to end the inclusion of Dualeโs and my name in the NYS saga,โ he said.
Murkomen however stated that he would not be cowed by Waiguruโs antics, saying the government will not engage with her on the NYS saga.
โDuale and I will not be held hostage by Waiguru and threatened into submission. We will not relent in the fight against corruption,โ he stated.
He further cautioned the former Devolution CS against trying to divide URP and TNA and causing a diversion on the scandal that led to the loss of Sh791 million.
Speaking at Chesoi Catholic Church in Elgeyo Marakwet, Murkomen also noted thatย he will not step aside just because Waiguru has linked him to the NYS scandalย saying he has the backing of the people of Elgeyo Marakwet.
Murkomenโs assertion comes as a response to an affidavit made public last week linking him, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Deputy President Rutoโs aide Farouk Kibet to the NYS saga.
Murkomen and Duale were accused of threatening the then NYS Senior Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe into allowing fraudulent transactions to take place at the NYS.
Gatundu South MPย Moses Kuria has also berated Waiguruย over her recently sworn affidavit implicating key members of the Jubilee coalition in the loss of Ksh791 million at the NYS saying her move is aimed at dividing Jubilee coalitionย along party lines.
Duale has also come out to defend himself from the allegationsย saying Waiguruโs revelations are a tactic aimed at diverting public attention from the key issue.
