A joint operation involving the military and the police has been launched after Al-Shabaab militants attacked Diff Police Station in Wajir County and injured three officers before escaping in a police vehicle on Sunday morning.
The National Police Service spokesman George Kinoti said that during the dawn attack, the militants also escaped with a mortar after burning some structures, including a Chief’s kiosk, within the town.
About 100 attackers armed with rifles raided the town and shot indiscriminately at the officers but only three of them were injured.
They engaged the officers for close to two hours.
The attackers managed to escape with their injured colleagues using a police vehicle.
