Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has offered to name the Ruiru Stadium after DP William Ruto.
He said the county has allocated Sh30 million in the 2016-17 financial year for its construction.
Kabogo said Ruto has made tremendous strides in enhancing cohesion between communities and deserves to be honoured.
โWe are constructing a stadium here in Ruiru and we would like to name it after you. We will invite you to come and commission it on completion as it will bear the name William Samoei Ruto Stadium,โ the governor said.
Kabogo spoke on Sunday at the AIPCA church, where he accompanied the DP to the launch of the Ruiru Deanery Medium Sacco.
He said the Mount Kenya region will back Ruto as President in 2022.
Kabogo said Jubilee has been promoting friendship and brotherhood between communities, religions and regions across the country. โPresident Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP have worked tirelessly to promote peace and national cohesion and they deserve accolades. We are sure Jubilee will win next year,โ the governor said.
Earlier, Kiambu Youth executive Machel Waikenda had said the stadium would take four months to complete. He said the cash allocated would be spent to construct a perimeter wall, a dais, levelling the ground and the drainage system.
(+) MCA says offer not genuine
Ngewa MCA Karungo Thangโwa, however told the Star on the phone that Kabogoโs offer to name the stadium after the DP is not genuine. โIt is a good idea to name the stadium after Ruto and I support it. But the offer by the governor is not genuine. Why is he saying it now? He wants to seal the mistakes he recently made that sparked outrage all over the country,โ he said.
He said the issue will be discussed in the assembly and residents consulted.
Thangโwa assured DP Ruto of total support from Central in his 2022 presidential bid.
Ruiru residents, who spoke to the Star, said Ruto deserves the honour for promoting national unity.
