President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday morning met with a Kisii politician who publicly accused him of smoking bhang.
Kenyatta came into contact with his accuser, Kiogoro MCA Samuel Onkwani,ย at State House, Nairobi, where he met 87ย Members of County Assemblyย (MCAs) from Kisii andNyamira.
In August 2013,ย Onkwaniย allegedly saidย “People close to Uhuru should advise him to stop smoking bhang”, a statement that landed him in court.
In photos taken during the meeting also attended by Deputy President William Ruto, Kenyatta is seen hugging Mr Onkwani and exchanging pleasantries.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Mr Kenyatta stated that he had forgiven the MCA for the remarks which had embarrassed him as a public figure.
In April 2014,ย Onkwani was arraigned in court over the utterance and was charged with undermining the authority of a public officer contrary to Section 132 of the Penal Code.
He, however,ย denied the charges and was released on a Sh50,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh20,000.
