Anti-riot officersย had been deployed in the town to quell chaos which emergedย following reports that Mrย Mandago and hisย Elgeyo Marakwetย counterpartย Alexย Tolgosย were being questionedย at the Directorate of Criminal Investigationย (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.

Area residents defended their county boss supporting his strong stand against appointment of Professor Laban Ayiro as acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University.

During the demonstrations, a K24 cameraman claimed to have been roughed up and his camera broken by an Eldoret deputy OCS identified as Pius Misikhu for filming the riots.

It is said that the officer orderedย Duncan Wangaย to stop recording the protests and in the processย physically harassed him.ย It was during the scuffle that he broke the camera.

The incident was heavily condemned by fellow journalists whoย took to the streets from the Eldoret High Courts, along the Uganda Road and finally to the Eldoret Police station where they presented their petition to the OCS Eldoret-West.
