Kenyan man charged with raping a sleeping woman in Kansas City
A 24-year-old Kansas City man has been charged with rape, accused of jumping into a stranger’s car outside a nightclub, driving away with a sleeping woman and sexually assaulting her by the side of the road.
Godfrey K. Kirui was arrested at the scene of the reported attack early Sunday morning and is charged with rape, felonious restraint, assault and tampering with a motor vehicle.
According to Kansas City police, an officer on patrol shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday encountered Kirui and a 22-year-old woman in a vehicle parked near East 39th Street and Gillham Road.
According to court records, the officer heard the woman scream, “Help me, help me, help me,” and saw Kirui throw her out of the vehicle through the open passenger door.
The woman told police that Kirui had raped her. She said that she had been sitting in the vehicle, which belonged to a friend, outside Club Aura at 3832 Main St. when Kirui jumped into the driver’s seat and drove them away.
She said she tried to fight Kirui but he struck her in the head.
Kirui was in custody Tuesday at the Jackson County jail. Bond was set at $150,000 cash.
