Njogu wa Njoroge Quits Kenyatta Family’s Kameme FM-Heads To Rival Station
Popular Kameme FM presenter Njogu wa Njoroge has reportedly quit the Kenyatta family owned station.
According to Ghafla, the vocal vernacular radio host is headed to Radio Africa’s new station Gukena FM, alongside his co-host Man Nyarii and his producer, Lydia Waithera.
Njogu is probably the most influential kikuyu radio host, with a following that can scare any politician. He has mobilized his listeners to raise money for other people’s treatment on multiple occasions. Last year, he mobilized them to raise Sh6.4 million for TV anchor Anjlee Gadvi to fund her liver cancer treatment. On other occasions, his show has raised sums of more than sh2 million in a matter of minutes.
A few months ago, Njogu held a thanksgiving rally at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani, attended by virtually all politicians from central. It is here that Moses Kuria made the infamous ‘Raila assassination’ statement.
If his departure from Kameme is confirmed, it will be a big blow for Uhuru Kenyatta as we approach the general election.
At the same time, it is a daring move by Radio Africa, which launched Gukena FM early this year. It shows their clear intentions to dominate the vernacular market as it does the lifestyle and sports market with Kiss, Classic and Radio Jambo.
This will be the worst mistake ever made by a Hero. This will mean the end of Njogu’s career. We love him alot, but we love #kameme more.
