Confirming the incident, Kibwezi OCPD Leonard Kimaiyo said police managed to keep the residents off, adding that no one was injured in the incident.

This comes just hours after a tragic accident involving a chemical tanker at Naivasha led to the death of at least 40 people.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a lorry headed towards Nakuru and ferrying gas cylinders and gum used in making shoes lost control and rammed into a fuel tanker and three other vehicle headed to Nairobi before exploding.

The flames from the burning lorry quickly spread to other vehicles where 13 vehicles were burnt beyond recognition in the 9:30pm incident.

The accident that took place near Karai area in Naivasha along the busy Nairobi – Nakuru highway caused a massive traffic snarl up, leaving many road users stuck as police and the fire brigade worked to clear the road.

According to Nakuru Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Masinde, the fire has since been put out and the roads cleared.
