NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 28 โ€“ Four Kenyans are among six aid workers killed in an ambush on March 25 in South Sudan.

โ€œThe ministry is actively engaging all stakeholders to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to this tragedyโ€ CS Amina Mohamed said Tuesday.

The aid workers were killed as they travelled in convoy from the capital Juba to the eastern town of Pibor.

Their attackers stopped the car, forced them out and then they were โ€œshot and killed.โ€

Three years of civil war in South Sudan have seen warring parties deny access to aid, attack humanitarian workers and loot relief supplies.
It has also displaced about 2.5 million people and created a devastating humanitarian crisis, including a famine that has already affected 100,000 people and is threatening to reach up to a million.

According to OCHA, it was the highest number of aid workers killed in a single incident since the conflict began in December 2013 in the worldโ€™s youngest country.

The ambush follows two other attacks on aid workers this month.

On March 14, a health worker and a patient were killed in an attack on a humanitarian convoy responding to a cholera outbreak in the central town of Yirol.

And four days earlier, local staff of an international NGO were detained by armed rebels and released four days later during fighting in the northern area of Mayendit.

  1. When will they tell us who did this and who the aid workers are? This little bits by bits are very difficult for those who know people serving in South Sudan from Kenya and other countries. This is all politics info and no real important stuff like about the people. Thanks for getting on your game. Otherwise, we have to call the ICRC or S. Sudan Red Cross.

    Thanks!

If they were militants who are not part of the S. Sudanese miltary, we need to know that too because that might involve other requests to governments. What is the purpose of killing aid workers? Please tell us why this would help anyone who lives in and is from S. Sudan? Perhaps someone doesn’t want aid workers to keep coming to S. Sudan. Maybe it has something to do with people or govts. who are totally against S. Sudan. Maybe someone is stirring up things to make it hard for aid ot get to S. Sudan. Think about it.
