Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Monday fined Sh500,000 for failing to honour summons by the Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC).
Sonko had been summoned to explain audit queries raised by Auditor General Edward Ouko but failed to show up.โ
Committee chairman Moses Kajwang stated that Sonko must pay the fine before November 5, 2018, and directed him to appear on December 5, 2018.
The committee further stated that it would order for the governorโs arrest should he fail to comply with the latest order.
Earlier this year, Sonko sent Charles Kerich, county executive in charge of Land, to appear on his behalf but the committee declined to listen to him.
โThe Senate will not be taken into a charade and our business is to have the governor appear before us and answer how billions of money was spent in the county.
โWe cannot listen to a county secretary who has written to us,โ said Kajwang at the time.
The office of the governor today confirmed receiving the summons requiring Sonko to appear before the committee on October 29 and October 30 but stated that according to the CPAIC schedule, Sonko should appear on November 19 and November 20.
