Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, in a relatable tweet, just showed how little titles mean to African parents when it comes to performing household chores.
In a video he posted, the Jubilee legislator traded his suits for a simple jeans and t-shirt to chop firewood.
“Christmas manenos. When Mama says Pchumba letekuni. She is the boss na hakuna titles!” he stated.
The senator’s actions elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans online with some happy to see him helping out at home.
“Kwa hiyo, vijana wadogo mtii wazazi pamoja na wake zenu. Mheshimiwa hapa ametupa mfano wakuigwa,” one user stated.
Some faulted Murkomen’s technic of chopping the wood.
One user noted, “You need to axe in a continuous line and the chunk of wood will fall off on its own. No need to axe the same spot twice. No wonder you’re getting tiny, useless splits.”
“Seems it’s really challenging you Mheshimiwa. Either you start lifting weights or you install a biogas system at your mum’s place,” another Kenyan added.
Others were of the opinion that firewood was an outdated method of cooking and Murkomen should introduce his mother to an alternative method.
“Tengenezea mamako biogas na umnunulie gas/electric cooker (Make for your mother a biogas or buy her a gas or electric cooker)” one advised.
