Nairobi, Kenya: The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has directed that Kethi Kilonzo be charged as recommended by police investigators over voter registration saga.
Kethi will be charged next Tuesday jointly with others.
“DPP Tobiko perused through the file and made a decision that Kethi be charged jointly with other IEBCofficials”, State Prosecutor Jacob Ondari told the court on Thursday morning.
Ondari and a lawyer, Julie Soweto, agreed before High Court Judge Lydia Achode to have Kethi present herself on Monday at the CID headquarters for her finger prints to be taken.
She will then be released on police bond and will appear before the magistrate on Tuesday to take a plea.-standardmedia.co.ke
Background
Diana Kethi Kilonzo is a Kenyan lawyer, lecturer and the daughter of the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo.
The controversy centers on her voter registration status in relation to her nomination for the Makueni Senate by-election after her father’s death in 2013.
Complaints were lodged that she was not a validly registered voter, which made her ineligible to run for office under Kenyan election laws which require a candidate to be a registered voter.
