Growing up in the quiet hills of Molo, Nakuru County Harrison Gitau describes himself as a typical village boy. He attended a local primary school within walking distance from his home. On weekends, he spent time herding livestock and enjoyed the simplicity of rural life.

Yet even in that environment, he was aware that there was a bigger world beyond his surroundings. Through music, especially American R&B and hip-hop, he developed a fascination with the United States. Over time, this idea slowly grew into a dream.

Academically, Harrison remained focused. He earned a B+ in high school before joining Maseno University in 2013. There, he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and graduated in 2018. However, his journey took an unexpected turn when he chose to pivot his career. Seeking a more practical path, he enrolled at Kenya Medical Training College in Nyeri. He completed a diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences in 2022.

This decision led him into the workforce as a medical imaging technician at Naivasha County Referral Hospital. Still, one goal remained constant: his desire to pursue a master’s degree. The challenge, however, was finding a program that could align both his undergraduate background and his current career.

That clarity came in 2023 when his uncle introduced him to an opportunity that had already transformed the life of a close family member. Inspired by this real-life example, Harrison decided to take the leap. Through structured guidance and career advisory, he discovered a path that perfectly bridged his experience and ambitions. It was Health Informatics and Bioinformatics at Grand Valley State University.

With dedicated preparation, including visa coaching and mock interview sessions, Harrison successfully secured his U.S. student visa. His story stands as a powerful reminder that no matter where you start, even in the most humble beginnings. With clarity, guidance, and determination, the world truly becomes accessible.
