Andrew Karanja grew up in Nakuru with one dream: to become a doctor. Raised on late-night hospital visits and a deep curiosity about the human body, he chose three sciences in high school; physics, biology, and chemistry, and set his sights on medicine.
Then the results came back. A C-minus in biology closed that door.
But a former primary school teacher took a look at his grades and noticed something else in Andrew’s scoresheet, an A in mathematics, and made a subtle recommendation: explore statistics.
Andrew followed the advice, enrolled at Moi University for a Bachelor’s in Applied Statistics with Computing, and quietly discovered a new direction.
The dream of going abroad never left though. It started with wanderlust, the Great Wall, the Pyramids of Giza, and became more concrete when his sister left for a Master’s in Belgium.
Suddenly, studying abroad wasn’t just an idea. It was a real possibility.
Andrew applied for Commonwealth scholarships, European scholarships, Canadian programs. Round after round, the answer was the same: we’re sorry.
Scholarship processes are long, competitive, and when they don’t work out, you lose an entire year.
That’s when he caught an ISP feature on NTV’s Chamwada Report. What stood out wasn’t just the funding. It was the clarity. Unlike scholarships, ISP offered a structured, step-by-step path with a guaranteed outcome at the end of it.
This inspiring story is brought to you by The International Scholars Program (ISP), a one-stop global mobility platform empowering bright talent to study, live, and work abroad.
