Andrew Karanja’s study abroad journey began with a consultation through the International Scholars Program (ISP), where he received guidance on university admissions, visa preparation, and the overall application process.
After submitting his academic transcripts for verification and receiving confirmation of his GPA evaluation, Andrew decided to pursue a master’s degree abroad. In July, he officially began the process with ISP’s support.
Drawing on his background in Statistics, Andrew explored master’s programs in Data Science through ISP’s career advisory services. While the University of Delaware was initially his preferred option, the absence of a January intake led him to consider Grand Valley State University and Virginia Commonwealth University instead.
ISP supported Andrew throughout the admissions process, helping him prepare his Statement of Purpose, identify referees, and strengthen his application materials.
Virginia Commonwealth University responded within four days, while Grand Valley State University required a longer review period. After following up with the admissions office, Andrew received an admission offer from Grand Valley, marking a major milestone in his journey.
Andrew’s motivation for pursuing Data Science stems from his work in the NGO sector, where data is used to build dashboards, inform policy decisions, and improve lives. He believes advanced training in the field will enhance his ability to create meaningful impact through data-driven solutions.
