At least 40 people were burnt to death in a chemical tanker explosion following a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The accident involved a fuel tanker and 14 other vehicles near Karai area in Naivasha.
The driver lost control of the tanker and rammed into other vehicles before bursting into flames.
The fuel tanker exploded on impact after ramming into the vehicles causing huge flames that quickly spread to the other vehicles reducing them to shells.
Bodies of the deceased have been taken to Naivasha Sub-county hospital mortuary.
Rescue teams that responded to the late night incident include Nakuru fire brigades, Police, St John Ambulance and Red Cross.
The late night accident also caused heavy traffic snarl up along the busy highway, with other motorists diverting to the alternative Mai Mahiu route.
