A Kenyan woman was yesterday charged with trafficking in 5,064.54 grams of syabu, which was estimated to be worth RM1.5 million.
Judith Achieng Odoyo, 30, was brought before magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof but no plea was recorded from her.
The accused from Outer Ring RD, Nairobi, Kenya was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the mandatory death sentence on conviction.
Judith, who was not represented by a lawyer, was allegedly caught in possession the drug in a special examination unit at Terminal One of Kota Kinabalu International Airport here at 8.45am on Sept 13.
Earlier, after an interpreter read the charge against Judith in English, Customs Department prosecuting officer Janet S Linggu informed the court that the accused had undergone a medical examination in a hospital.
A medical report on the accused shows that she is suspected of having fibroid, thus another examination will be conducted on her on Oct 10 this year.
Nuruhuda set Oct 19 this year for next mention of the case pending a report on the drug from the Chemist Department.
Odoyo, who was a salesgirl and student of an institute in Kenya while she was in her country, was ordered to be further remanded under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as the alleged offence is not bailable.
Senior Customs Assistant Director Ahmad Samad also appeared for the prosecution yesterday.
